Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the anthracnose intensity in ‘Prata-Anã’ banana with the application of three phosphite formulations in two application intervals in the developing banana bunches and to evaluate the physical and chemical characteristics of fruits. In the field, in addition to producer management, three phosphite formulations were evaluated: FCu1 (4% Cu + 20% P2O5), FCu2 (4% Cu + 22% P2O5) and FK (42% P2O5 + 27.7% K2O) sprayed on banana bunches at different application frequencies: four and eight times. En México, el Tizón Suizo, Phaeocryptopus gaeumannii, reduce la calidad y producción de árboles de navidad, poco se conoce del ciclo biológico. Esta investigación se dividió en tres partes. La primera tuvo como objetivo conocer la biología del hongo a través de un año, para ello se identificó, secuenció, evaluó incidencia, severidad, defoliación, porcentaje de aislamientos, ascosporas en pseudotecios y aerotransportadas. El uso de sensores remotos para la evaluación de la severidad es una de los aspectos más importantes en el estudio de grandes incendios, así como la aplicación de los resultados para el proceso de restauración. En este trabajo se ha estudiado la aplicación de imágenes de los sensores Landsat ETM+ y ASTER para evaluar la vegetación previa, la superficie recorrida por el fuego y los daños producidos por el incendio ocurrido en el año 2005 en el Parque Nacional de Torres del Paine (Chile). ABSTRACT Bud rot (BR) caused by Phytophthora palmivora and lethal wilt (LW) whose causal agent is unknown, are two diseases currently posing a threat to the oil palm ( Elaeis guineensis . Jacq) industry. BR, first reported in 1964, has destroyed more than 85,000 ha. LW, first reported in 1994 in the Llanos Orientales in Colombia, has destroyed more than 5,000 ha. Circulating high mobility group box-1 and toll-like receptor 4 expressions increase the risk and severity of epilepsy BJMBR

This study aimed to investigate the association of serum high-mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) and toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expressions with the risk of epilepsy as well as their correlations with disease severity and resistance to anti-epilepsy drugs. One hundred and five epilepsy patients and 100 healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled in this case-control study, and serum samples were collected from all participants to assess the HMGB1 and TLR4 expressions by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Both serum HMGB1 (P<0.001) and TLR4 (P<0.001) expressions were higher in epilepsy patients than in HCs, and they displayed good predictive values for risk of epilepsy. The objective of this research was to evaluate the sporulative capacity of Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (Pot), the causal agent of wheat blast, in tissues of wheat plants under different temperatures degrees. Con el propósito de identificar insecticidas efectivos para el manejo del psílido de la papa Bactericera cockerelli Sulc., y reducir la incidencia de la Punta Morada de la Papa (PMP), se realizó un experimento en Metepec, Edo. de México, donde se evaluaron siete insecticidas de diferentes grupos toxicológicos. Los mejores insecticidas para el control de huevos y adultos del psílido fueron extracto de nim y abamectina con 69.8 y 84.8% de efectividad biológica, mientras que para ninfas fueron spiromesifen, bifentrina, abamectina y flufenoxuron con 77.7% de efectividad. Aqueous solution of Aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) has been commercialized in Brazil as ReTainTM C, 15% mainly as a potent inhibitor of ethylene biosynthesis by prevention of pre-harvest abscission and ripening of apple fruits. The effect of the product was evaluated during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 crop seasons in edafoclimatic conditions of Santa Catarina upland. Abstract Anthracnose stands out among rot diseases that can occur in the post-harvest phase of banana. The aim of this study was to evaluate the thermotherapy in the control of anthracnose in ‘Prata Anã’ banana produced in northern state of Minas Gerais. Bananas ‘Prata Anã’ variety were divided into groups of three fruits and inoculated with Colletotrichum musae. Immune responses to Leptospira infection: roles as biomarkers for disease severity BJID

Various leptospiral components have been identified and shown to be involved in tissue destruction. In addition, immune responses to leptospires have been implicated in target organ damages in severe leptospirosis cases. Several inflammatory mediators were shown to be higher in susceptible animals than in resistant hosts. Moreover, cytokines/chemokines and serum proteins induced following Leptospira infection were suggested to be biomarkers for disease severity in human leptospirosis. This review focuses on the role of immune responses in the severity of leptospirosis. Studies in both animal models and humans are discussed.

The parasitic weed Orobanche cumana Wallr. (broomrape) is one of the major limiting factors in worldwide sunflower production. However, it is absent in the centre of origin and in the sunflower crop areas of América. It has not yet been elucidated if O. cumana naturalization in sunflower habitats in Argentina is restricted as a result of either abiotic constraints or resistance in grown commercial cultivars. La escaldadura de la hoja (Xanthomonas albilineans), es una de las enfermedades bacterianas de mayor importancia en el cultivo de caña de azúcar. Afecta la calidad del jugo y en variedades susceptibles ocasiona pérdidas estimadas entre el 90 y 100%. Con el objetivo fue caracterizar molecularmente el agente causal, evaluar el método apropiado de inoculación y evaluar la respuesta de 41 variedades de caña de azúcar a la escaldadura de la hoja. Virus asociados al cultivo de jitomate en el estado de Morelos. Colegio de Postgraduados

En un invernadero comercial de jitomate ubicado en Zacatepec, Morelos, se realizaron aplicaciones independientes de miel de abeja, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, ácido acetil salicílico, cobre-manganeso-zinc y acibenzolar S-metil para determinar su efecto sobre el rendimiento, incidencia y severidad de virosis en este cultivo. Adicionalmente, se evaluó el extracto de clavo como repelente de mosca blanca. Las plantas tratadas con levadura tuvieron la menor incidencia en la primera fecha de evaluación. Plantas asperjadas con acibenzolar S-metil mostraron la menor severidad en las tres primeras fechas de evaluación, mientras que las tratadas con miel presentaron los valores más altos de incidencia en todas las fechas de evaluación. El extracto de clavo no funcionó...
